ANNIVERSARY TRIVIA

In the last few years, ANNIVERSARY hasn't boded well for current World Champions, while favorite brand new champs.

At ANNIVERSARY 2000, Deacon came away with the title, but the seeds of his retirement were sown by the ClaimStakers and the diagnosis of his multiple sclerosis.

ANNIVERSARY 1999 and 1997 crowned first time CSWA World Champions.  Eli Flair defeated the most recent champ, Hornet, in the IRONMAN of CHAMPIONS in 1999.  In 1997, GUNS won his first CSWA World Title in a tournament.

ANNIVERSARY 1998 saw former champs Hornet and GUNS complete two falls, only to have the third fall interrupted, leaving the World Title vacant and leading to a new tournament.

ANNIVERSARY 1999
featured the fourth IRONMAN of CHAMPIONS... and the return of the Red Midget, of course.

ANNIVERSARY 1997
saw a masked man vie for the World Title in the finals a championship tournament.  Was it Hornet?

ANNIVERSARY 1996
saw the feud between Randalls and Hornet pull in a new America's Team!

CSWA World Heavyweight Championship

Evan Aho vs. "Good God" Kevin Powers

BB: This very well could be Kevin Powers’ last match.  ANNIVERSARY is the last time you’re going to see Kevin Powers, folks.  This is the final stop on Good God’s retirement tour, and it’s for the CSWA Heavyweight Championship!  Folks, if this is Powers’ last match, it might as well be Evan Aho’s FIRST.  Sure, he’s been involved in some great feuds, but this is his first defense as the World champion, the illustrious prize that made six guys almost kill each other just moments ago, with Wicked Sight coming out on top.  He’s going to meet whoever comes out of Merritt Auditorium with that strap around his waist, but that’s not important right now… Evan Aho is wrestling for the World Title at ANNIVERSARY, folks, and he deserves every minute of it!

SB:  He beat the Sno-Cone man for the World Title… and speaking of Icy…

BB:  Sammy, I don’t know where he is today, and it doesn’t matter.  We’re coming face-to-face with the end of Kevin Powers’ career…

SB:  Career?  Love carried him AND the Sno-Cone man!

BB:  You’ve got a thing against our talent, don’t you?

(CUE UP:  “Let’s Go All The Way” by ICP – enormous response.)

BB:  And the fans are giving it up for Kevin Powers… he deserves every bit of this.  These two men traveled to ANNIVERSARY 2001 on two VERY different roads, but they’re both here now, ready to collide… Kevin Powers has a look in his eyes that says he’s ready to go, and at the same time… he’s ready to go.

SB:  Oh shut up.  This is a night where that FEMINAZI is back… This is a night where WICKED SIGHT won a chance to possibly become our champion… And you’re sucking up to Kevin Powers!

BB:  Give it a rest… Kevin Powers is standing in the center of the ring and looking out at Merritt Auditorium, and how ironic is it that he’s wrestling his last match in a building named for Chad Merritt?  The two have a storied dislike for each other, on a personal AND professional level, and Chad Merritt is watching tonight’s events from a skybox above.

SB:  Kevin Powers is looking up that way, now, as a matter of fact!

(CUE UP:  “Blood, Milk and Sky” by White Zombie – the crowd erupts)

BB:  LISTEN TO THE MERRITT AUDITORIUM COME UNGLUED FOR OUR HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION!

SB:  (sigh)  These fans…

BB:  And if there’s ever been a more serious World Heavyweight Champion, I can’t name him… Evan Aho is possibly the most dedicated wrestler to have ever “played the game”.  He lives and breathes this game… not the business, the politics, the personal lives… Evan Aho lives and breathes to WRESTLE.  And he’s got his chance tonight against “Good God”… He has the chance to prove the twenty pounds of gold sitting around his waist aren’t there on accident – he has the chance to show the world he’s for real.

SB:  What happens if Powers wins?

BB:  He leaves on top… and he leaves Merritt out in the cold. It’s a must-win for both men, and Lord knows the loser is going to be the saddest man this side of the Golden Gate Bridge tonight…

SB:  Let’s not forget that the winner still has to defend this gold against our United States Champion....that DAMN Hornet!  They could BOTH go home as unhappy campers!

BB:  Aho's not sure what to do with World Title.  He tosses it to the timekeeper at ringside like it's a hot potato.  The intensity in the eyes of Evan Aho and Kevin Powers tells the story.  They’re face to face in the center of the ring, and Manny Juarez is calling the shots for this one.  The bell rings and this bout is officially under way…

SB:  I heard Manny got his bike, if anyone was wondering…

BB:  Aho and Powers tie up, and the big man works the champ into the corner, Juarez calling for a clean break… and he gets one.  And Powers backs out of the corner, now both men tying up once again, but Aho comes out with an arm twist, and he’s cranking on it… into a side headlock, and now he inverts the side, and there with a leg sweep, Kevin Powers crashes to the mat… and Aho lets him back up…

SB:  Are they sparring?

BB:  Both men are circling each other and the crowd is in a frenzied state… the tie up now, once again, and Evan sends Powers to the ropes, drop toehold, locks around the waist, INCREDIBLE GERMAN SUPLEX and Evan Aho is putting on a wrestling clinic right now!  What an incredible series of maneuvers, and he’s got a smile on his face… He’s going to keep striking, little by little on Powers until Powers loses control…

SB:  Powers doesn’t look exactly relaxed right now, at least to me, Buckley…

BB:  He’s back to his feet, but he’s a little dazed and Aho shoots him back into the ropes once again, Aho follows in with a shot at a double-leg takedown, but Powers with a double axehandle, and that’s where the size and strength of Kevin Powers come in handy.  And no, Aho getting back to his feet, with Powers in charge, and Powers with a right hand to the head of Evan Aho, the champ stumbles backward into the corner, and Powers is now sizing up his boots with Aho’s midsection…

SB:  Quick, Buckley, what’s Evan’s momma’s name?

BB:  ……What?

SB:  A-Ho!  Ha!  Get it?

BB:  We’re in the middle of a World Title bout, quite possibly Kevin Powers’ final match, in the center of Merritt Auditorium for ANNIVERSARY and you’re making “yo momma” jokes?

SB:  So?

BB:  Powers with a whip now, out of the corner, but Aho reverses, gets a waist lock, and he goes for the throw, but Powers elbows his way out of it… Aho ducks the third elbow and now he’s got the front… NORTHERN LIGHTS SUPLEX… ONE… NO!  It could have been over that fast folks, it could have been… Powers doesn’t look happy, and that has to be part of Evan’s plans…

SB:  Powers hasn’t looked happy since long before the Ironman of Champions…

BB:  Aho is trying to outwrestle Powers right now, but the big man is trying to rip his head off!  Chokehold, could be a slam… Aho chops out, kicks him the back of the leg, clamps on a dragon sleeper!  He’s the most proficient technician out there, folks, and he’s clamping it on hard… but Powers uses those long legs to kick Aho RIGHT in the skull, and Aho falls backward, and now both men are having to regain their senses early in this match…

SB:  But as much as I hate to admit it, these guys both have a LOT of fight left in them…

BB:  They tie up again and Aho gets him in the corner, comes out with a fireman’s carry, clamps on an armbar, and now he’s prying the shoulder of Kevin Powers… Powers starts to rise up, hip toss by Powers, but Aho lands on his feet, and he drapes his leg over Powers’ head, Powers raises up and sends Aho back to the ground… HUGE CLOTHESLINE BY KEVIN POWERS, AND HE GOES FOR THE COVER, ONE… NO!  BUT WHAT A SUDDEN SHIFT OF MOMENTUM IN THE FAVOR OF KEVIN POWERS!

SB:  This crowd is going nuts, Buckley!  What’s so special about these two?

BB:  They’re two of the finest athletes on the face of the planet, Sammy… And now Powers is in the driver’s seat.  He’s going to want to slow this thing down, make a lot of high-impact maneuvers, and keep Aho from getting the chance to outwrestle him…  Kevin Powers on the warpath, really laying into the champion with fists of fury, hard right hands to the side of the head.  This is a very precarious position for Aho; Kevin Powers is a dangerous man outside of that ring.

SB:  He’s dangerous in the ring, too, but he’s no Eddy Love, and him just getting this match, because he’s throwing the boots on the shelf, disgusts me…

BB:  You know as well as anyone else, he won this match by defeating Cardigo, no easy task in itself. Now he cranks on Aho’s arm, forcing him down to the padding outside, Evan rolls over, kemps up, a few shots to the midsection from the champion, a kick to knee, and Powers folds over… Evan’s going for a piledriver!  Powers with a back body drop, but Aho holds on, a sunset flip…

SB:  Which does nothing on the outside…

BB:  Unless you follow through by lacing the leg up and dropping a knee on it, which is exactly what Aho did… He’s working on the knee, and he’s done a superb job of outwrestling Kevin Powers here, so far at least.

SB:  And he rolls back in the ring… Coward.

BB:  No, Buckley, he’s a smart man.  Evan Aho rolled in the ring so he could bring this match back to his pace, and the crowd is becoming noisy again, as Kevin Powers takes his time and shakes his leg off before coming back in the ring… and there he is, walking up the steel ramps, and he’s making Aho wait for him… If Aho is trying to break Powers by making him impatient… it might not work.

SB:  Right… he’s got ALL the time in the world.

BB:  Aho makes his way over to Powers, and goes for a waistlock, but… OUT OF NOWHERE, A BOOT TO THE MIDSECTION AND KEVIN POWERS HAS EVAN AHO UP FOR THE KISS THE CANVAS!

SB:  Aho hopped off!

BB:  AHO GOT OFF IN THE AIR, AND NOW WITH A HUGE EUROPEAN UPPERCUT, AND NOW… a very surprising right hand from Evan Aho, now the champion from Washington State is sending Good God into the corner, follows in with a shoulder block, and drops the big man with a drop toehold.  Powers goes down and he’s tying up the legs with an inverted figure four… Aho is a mat technician, and it’s obvious that he’s having a hard time causing Powers to make a mistake, so he’s going to take out Powers’ legs…

SB:  That’s a pretty simple equation, Buckley, but thanks for the insight…

BB:  That’s why they hire me, you wise guy, and Powers is screaming right now… He’s bled and sweat and done everything else imaginable for this company, and tonight is going to be no different. Powers uses his long arms to grab a hold of the ropes… there’s a break, and Aho is back up, but he’s taken a stance like a rabid dog and he’s waiting for the big man to get back up… Powers back to his feet, and Aho with a falling dropkick to the back of his leg, Powers goes down… and he wisely rolls out of the ring to take a breather…

SB:  What’s NOT smart… Aho is following him out there!

BB:  Aho smells blood, and he follows Powers out, he has an arm and a leg hooked, he tries to throw the suplex, but Powers … POWERS out of it, and sends Evan Aho into the steel guard rail, what a crafty move by Kevin Powers, and it wasn’t a wise act for Evan to move outside of the ring, and now Powers is following it up with a series of right hands… He shifts his good leg into Aho’s stomach, and now he tosses Aho down to the floor… and HE rolls into the ring, trying to play a game of one upsmanship with the heavyweight champ…

SB:  Evan won’t like that a bit.

BB:  And Evan rolls back in the ring, but Powers is waiting, and he hit a knife edged chop to the chest of Aho, and now he sends Aho into the corner, follows in with a clothesline, but NOBODY’S HOME, AHO WITH A ROLLUP OUT OF THE CORNER, POWERS KICKS OUT… BOTH MEN UP AND EVAN AHO WITH AN EXPLODER SUPLEX, HE’S QUICKLY GOING FOR THE PINFALL!

SB:  ONE……TWO……

BB:  NO, NO, POWERS KICKS OUT… Kevin Powers is up and Aho has finally done it, Powers has snapped, he swinging wildly and violently at Evan Aho, and h connects with a right hand, now he shoots the champion into the far side, and Aho comes back around, Powers telegraphs the boot and THAT’S the mistake Aho was looking for, he’s been working on that leg all night and now he’s got an ankle lock submission applied, Kevin Powers is HOWLING right now, folks, I’m not joking…

SB:  But he’s got a hold of the ropes now…

BB:  And Evan Aho is forced to break the hold… Powers is limping as he gets up, but he’s got enough adrenaline to carry him through this… Aho goes straight for the leg again, but he might have been overzealous, he didn’t set up his shot, and Power with an elbow, and Aho stumbles backward… POWERS SENDS AHO OVER THE TOP ROPE WITH HIS BAD WHEEL, AND EVAN AHO LANDED HARD RIGHT HERE IN FRONT OF US… And now Kevin Powers is following up, he’s headed outside… Pounding away at the forehead of our World Champion, and Sammy… watch out, he’s clearing off your side of the table!

SB:  Always my side…

BB:  He slams Aho’s head into the table, not once but two times… THREE… and now he’s once again sending blows to Evan’s head, and an Irish whip INTO THE POST, AHO HITS THE RING POST, AND HE LOOKS TO BE IN SOME SERIOUS PAIN… He’s a consummate professional, but Evan’s had some problems with his ribs every since ELVIS LIVES this past year when he cracked a couple of them in a brutal three-way tag team match, and damaged them further in subsequent matches that night for the Greensboro and Presidential titles, and it might come into play here, and Powers follows in with a HUGE tackle, Evan Aho is laid out on the floor!

SB:  The ref is finally starting to count!

BB:  Yes, he is, and Powers sees it, and he rolls Aho into the ring, follows him in and he shoots Evan into the corner, and he follows it up with a big elbow.  Aho stumbles out, and POWERS WITH A CLOTHESLINE THAT NEARLY RIPPED EVAN AHO’S HEAD OFF… and now, he’s got that look in his eyes… We’ve seen it so many times over the years, folks, and I can call it now when I see it… Kevin Powers is going for the Kiss The Canvas and it might all be over for Evan Aho right now!

SB:  The shortest title reign ever!

BB:  He’s got Evan in place for it, the crowd is on it’s feet… POWERS IS LOOKING AT THE SKYBOX… POWERS IS STARING AT THE PRESIDENTIAL SUITE ABOVE…

SB:  HE JUST FLIPPED CHAD MERRITT THE FINGER!

BB:  AND AHO CAPITALIZES, WITH A ROLLUP… ONE……TWO……THR—NO!  NO!  THAT WAS SO CLOSE, AND POWERS IS BACK UP, AHO’S BACK UP… ECSTASY!  ECSTASY!  EVAN AHO’S SPIN ON THE TIGER DRIVER, THAT’S HIS FINISHING MANEUVER, AND IT LOOKS LIKE POWERS’ HATRED FOR CHAD MERRITT FINISHED HIM OFF!

SB:  You’ve got to be kidding!

BB:  ONE……TWO……THREE!  THREE!  EVAN AHO RETAINS THE CSWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP!

SB:  AND KEVIN POWERS IS GONE!

BB:  That'll be up to him and the man he just flipped off, I guess.  It's true that tonight is Powers last contractual obligation to the CSWA.  But wow, what a win for Evan Aho.  He held on and waited for the mistake by Kevin Powers... and he got a win out of it.  After you watch this promo for the CSWA's newest TV offering, CSWA: ON TIME, we'll be back with Flair/Windham.... INSIDE THE CAGE!
